COMPANY HISTORY
Chester E. Lewis began trading with the Hopi and Navajo Indians. In 1933 this was the first business off the Hopi & Navajo Reservation on state highway 77 North, in Holbrook, Arizona. In 1949, Chester built the famous Wigwam Motel in northeastern Arizona on old Route 66 in Holbrook. Carrying on his tradition of trading with the Indians, Lewis Traders was built by his sons in 1974 on Interstate 40 at the 292 exit, four miles east of Holbrook. It is the perfect location for the purchase of fine Indian arts and crafts as it is situated off of the Navajo and Hopi Reservations.
Today Lewis Traders, is owned and operated by Robert and Rhett Lewis, third generation Indian traders. Robert and Rhett are the son and grandson respectively of Chester E. Lewis. Robert and Rhett have formed lasting relationships with the local artists over the years. They offer the finest quality Indian products at reasonable prices because they buy direct from the artists.
